The Tranquil Orchard - Nuthatch
The Tranquil Orchard is in Woodside, near Dumfries. It's a new build lodge, detached. There are a couple on the same small site, but they're spaced out. You have your own garden and a veranda.
It sleeps two. One bedroom, one shower room. Everything's on the ground floor. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's clean, modern, and uncluttered.
The main thing is the wood-fired hot tub on the veranda. You have to light it and wait for it to heat up, but it's worth it. The skies get very dark here, so on a clear night the stars are good.
There's a pub about two miles away. A shop and a restaurant are five miles. For a bigger shop, Dumfries is about a fifteen minute drive. Castle Douglas is similar, it has good food shops.
The location is quiet. You're inland, but the coast is about ten miles. The Solway coast is flat and wide, good for walks. There are forests and hills straight from the door if you prefer.
If you want specific places to visit, Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is good for wildlife. For general planning, Visit Scotland has info on Galloway Forest Park, which is nearby.
Facilities: it has a dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. No pets, sorry. There's a shared swimming pool on site you can use.
You can book it with the lodge next door if you're a bigger group.
