The Tranquil Orchard - Nuthatch
The Nuthatch is a lodge in a place called Woodside, near Dumfries. It's new, detached, and sits in a quiet spot with a few other lodges in an orchard. Sleeps two, one bedroom, one shower room. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's well equipped and comfortable.
The main thing is the wood-fired hot tub on the deck. You have to light it and wait for it to heat up, but it's private. It's good at night because there's not much light pollution round here.
Inside it's open plan. Everything's on one level. It's got a dishwasher, washing machine, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside.
The location is quiet. The nearest pub is about two miles. Shop and a restaurant are five miles. For a proper supermarket or more choice, you'd go into Dumfries, which is about a fifteen minute drive. Castle Douglas is known for food shops if you're into that.
The coast is about ten miles. The Solway Firth has got long, sandy beaches. Inland, there's a lot of forest and hills for walking. The Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is nearby if you like birdwatching. For walk information, the Galloway Forest Park site is useful.
No pets allowed, sorry. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. You can book it with the lodge next door, the Woodpecker, if you're a bigger group.
