The Tranquil Orchard - Woodpecker

The Tranquil Orchard - Woodpecker is a lodge in Woodside, Dumfriesshire. It's detached and sits in its own bit of garden.

It's rated 4 Star. That means it's well equipped and comfortable. It sleeps three people. There are three bedrooms, but they're all single beds, so it's best suited for friends or a small family. One bathroom with a walk-in shower.

The layout is all on the ground floor and it's open plan. It's wheelchair accessible at the entrance and through the main living space. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings.

The location is quiet and rural. You've got fields around you. There's a farm about a five-minute walk away that does ice cream. The nearest pub is about two miles away in the village. For a proper shop or a restaurant, you're looking at a five-mile drive.

The beach is about ten miles, at the Solway Coast. It's good for walks. Dumfries is a short drive for supermarkets and things. Castle Douglas is known for its food shops if you're into that.

If you want organised days out, the Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is nearby. For walking or cycling information, the Dumfries and Galloway Council country parks page is useful. The area is known for dark skies, if you're interested in stargazing.

There's on-site parking and space to store bicycles. No pets, sorry.
