The Briars

The Briars is in Carterspiece. It's on what's essentially the main village street, so it's not remote. You'll see people walking past. It's a semi-detached stone cottage, built for forest workers I think.

It sleeps six across three bedrooms. There's one bathroom. The rating is 3 Star. It means it's comfortable and clean, but don't expect luxury. The stairs are a bit steep, and the doorways are low in places. You'll need to mind your head.

The garden is at the back, enclosed. It gets the sun in the afternoon. There's a wood burner in the living room, which is good for colder evenings. We leave some wood for you. There's a washing machine, WiFi, a cot and highchair if you need them. You can bring one dog.

The shop is about fifty yards away. The pub is about two hundred yards. They do food. For a bigger shop, you'd drive to Coleford.

You're right in the Forest of Dean. You can walk straight into the woods from the back of the garden. For cycling, there are the family trails at Beechenhurst or the downhill stuff at Puzzlewood. You can go canoeing on the Wye at Symonds Yat.

Ross-on-Wye is about twenty minutes by car. Monmouth is about the same, maybe twenty-five. They're nice for a wander and a coffee. For something bigger, Gloucester or Hereford are within forty-five minutes.
