Thornhill

Thornhill is our place in Little Doward. It's detached but it's next to our house, though you've got your own garden and plenty of privacy up there. The view is the main thing. You can see right across the valley to the Malvern Hills.

It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms which helps. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped.

You're up on the hill, so the walks start from your door. You're in the Wye Valley, so it's all woodland paths and river views straight away. Deer and badgers are around, and sometimes you'll see wild boar tracks, though they're shy. Useful for walkers and cyclists: Woodland Trust.

Monmouth is about ten minutes down the hill. There's a Waitrose there, and pubs by the river. Goodrich Castle is close, maybe fifteen minutes. It's a proper ruin on a hill. Tintern Abbey is about twenty minutes away over the bridge in Wales. It's impressive.

Ross-on-Wye is twenty minutes one way, Abergavenny about twenty-five the other. Hereford is half an hour if you need a bigger town. The Forest of Dean is on your doorstep, really, for more walking and cycling.

There's a pub about a mile and a half away that does food. The nearest shop is a mile, in the village.

Inside, it's open plan with a wood burner. There's a TV, WiFi, a washing machine. Outside there's a patio, a BBQ, and space for bikes. We provide bedding and towels. A cot, highchair and stairgate are there if you need them. There's parking right outside. No pets, sorry.

For planning: Wye Valley National Landscape and English Heritage Goodrich Castle.
