Old Bakehouse

The Old Bakehouse is a cottage attached to the main house on the Wythall estate, near Walford. It's old, 16th century, so you get the beams and the leaded windows. It sleeps four, two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating.

You've got your own garden with lawn furniture. The estate grounds are a big part of it. There are woods to walk in, a freshwater lake, and the owners run a vineyard here. You can buy their wine and book a tasting if you're interested.

The stairs inside are steep, as you'd expect. It's got an open plan living area downstairs. Facilities are straightforward: wifi, TV, washing machine, parking right there. Bedding and towels are included. We accept up to two dogs.

Ross-on-Wye is the nearest proper town, about ten minutes by car. Symonds Yat is very close, just a couple of miles. It's good for a walk and the views from the top rock are worth it. You can hire canoes there too.

For a day out, Hereford and Gloucester are within half an hour. Further afield, places like Ludlow, Cheltenham, or the Cotswolds are about an hour's drive.

If you're looking for walk ideas or local history, these sites are good: Wye Valley Walk and English Heritage Roman Britain. The Roman stuff is mostly in Gloucester.
