The Game Larders is a cottage on the Wythall estate near Walford. It was built in the 16th century and was used as game larders for the main house. It's attached to the big manor house, but you get your own entrance.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The ceiling is low in the living room because of the beams, so if you're very tall you'll need to mind your head. The stairs up to the bedroom are also quite steep, as you'd expect.
You share the main gardens and grounds with the other cottage here. There's a lot of space. There's a lake, woodland, and the owners' vineyards. You'll see deer and red kites. The sound of the water from the lake is quite relaxing.
The owners make wine on the estate. You can buy a bottle or arrange a tasting, but you need to ask them directly about that.
Ross-on-Wye is the nearest proper town, about ten minutes by car. Symonds Yat is very close, maybe two miles. It's a good spot for a walk and a pub lunch. The Wye Valley Walk passes nearby if you like longer walks.
Within half an hour you can be in Hereford or Gloucester. The Forest of Dean is also close for cycling or walking.
Inside, it's got a washing machine, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. You can bring up to two dogs. There's parking right outside.
If you're a bigger group, you can book this cottage together with the Old Bakehouse next door, which sleeps four.
