Ghillies Lodge is a detached house on the Ness Castle Estate, just outside Inverness. It's a five-star lodge, which means it’s well-finished. Feels solid. It sleeps six.
There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms, one for each bedroom. The garden is private, with a patio. You get a view over the River Ness from inside.
The stairs are fine, but the front step at the entrance is quite high. The doorways are wide and it’s all on one level inside, which is good for wheelchair access. There’s parking right outside.
It’s quiet out here. You’re in the countryside but Inverness is about ten minutes away by car. The city centre has shops, restaurants, a cinema. There’s a shop a mile away and a pub two and a half miles off.
If you’re here to walk, you can start straight from the door. For fishing, the estate can arrange salmon fishing on the river. They also have a therapist who can come to the lodge for treatments, if you book it.
You’re well-placed for day trips. Culloden Battlefield is very close. Loch Ness is about twenty minutes’ drive for a cruise. The Moray Firth for dolphins is maybe twenty-five minutes. The coast and proper beaches are a bit further, about sixteen miles.
If you want to go further, you can drive to the Isle of Skye in a couple of hours, or up towards John o' Groats. It’s a good base.
For facilities: it has a woodburning stove, a BBQ, a dishwasher, washing machine, wifi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a cot and highchair if needed. You can bring one dog.
