River Lodge is on the Ness Castle Estate, just outside Inverness. It's a big detached wooden lodge, sleeps fourteen. Seven bedrooms, each with its own bathroom.
It's got a five star rating, which means it's well finished. Everything's included: bedding, towels, Wi-Fi, parking. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, wood burning stove, that sort of thing. The garden is yours, with a barbecue. You can bring one dog.
The main thing is the view. It looks right out over the river. It's quiet. You're in the countryside but Inverness is only about ten minutes by car. There's a shop about a mile away, a pub a bit further.
If you're here for the outdoors, it's a good base. The estate has fishing, you can walk from the door. Inverness has the usual shops and restaurants. From there, you're well placed for a lot of things within half an hour. Culloden Battlefield is close. So is the Moray Firth for dolphin watching. Loch Ness is about twenty minutes south.
For further trips, the North Coast 500 starts nearby. Aviemore and Cairngorms are an hour or so south. The Isle of Skye is a couple of hours' drive, but it's a full day out.
