Red Squirrel Cottage is on the Ness Castle Estate near Inverness. It’s single storey, which is good if stairs are a problem. You’re attached to Weir Cottage next door, but it’s just the two of you and a connecting wall. You don’t hear much through it, but I thought you should know.
It sleeps four, two bedrooms. Both have an ensuite bathroom, which is handy. The whole place looks out onto the river. The main window in the living space is big, so you get a good view of it even from the sofa. There’s a wood burning stove for cooler nights.
It’s got a 5 Star rating. That means it’s well put together and clean, with good quality things. It’s not fussy, just comfortable. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. There’s parking right outside.
You can bring one dog. There’s a grassy area nearby for walks. The estate itself has paths along the river. For a longer walk, you can be in Inverness city centre in about ten minutes. It’s a straightforward drive.
You’re in a good spot here. Culloden Battlefield is a fifteen minute drive. Loch Ness is about twenty five minutes. If you fancy seeing dolphins, a trip to the Moray Firth coast is maybe half an hour. You can get boat trips from there or from Inverness marina.
The estate can sometimes arrange salmon fishing on the river. And they have a therapist who can do beauty treatments in your lodge, if you book it. You’d need to ask them for details when you arrive.
