This is Rosie. It’s a self-contained little place near Pencarreg, up in the hills of Carmarthenshire. The details say sleeps five, but it's in one bedroom with bunk beds. It's really for two adults and up to three kids. It's detached, so no neighbours right on top of you.
It's properly off-grid. There's solar power for lights and to heat the water for the shower. The shower and toilet are in separate huts just outside. It’s all very simple and back-to-basics. There’s a gas cooker, and a wood burner for heat. The bedroom is in a separate little hut from the main living space. You've got over an acre of ground to yourselves.
It's a 3 Star place, which fits. It’s clean and functional, but it's about the experience, not luxury. If you need constant wifi or can't do without a proper telly, it's not for you. They've put USB chargers in for phones, so you’re not completely cut off.
The village of Llanybydder is a couple of miles away. It’s got a butcher, a small Co-op, and a couple of pubs. Brechfa Forest is about fifteen minutes by car. It’s famous for mountain biking trails and good walking. If you want to fish or mess about on the river, the Teifi isn’t far.
Lampeter’s the nearest town, maybe a twenty-minute drive. There’s a university there, so some cafes and shops. For a day out, Llanerchaeron is a National Trust house with nice gardens. If you fancy the coast, Aberaeron and New Quay are about forty minutes away. You can sometimes see dolphins from the pier in New Quay.
Facilities are as described: bedding and towels are included, there's parking, and they take up to three pets. It’s a unique sort of place.
Useful links for the area: Visit Wales West Wales and for walking trails, National Trust Dinefwr isn't too far.
