The Cabin in the Woods is near Pencarreg in Carmarthenshire. It’s called that because it literally is a cabin in the woods. It's off-grid, which means no mains electricity or water. It’s detached and you have about an acre of private woodland to yourselves.
It sleeps four but there's only one bedroom, a double. There’s a sofa bed in the living area for the other two people. The bathroom is external. It’s a separate little hut with a shower and toilet. The water is heated by solar panels, so it depends on the weather. The place is 3 Star rated. It’s basic but clean and functional.
Getting there involves a walk. You park your car at the top and there’s a steep footpath down to the cabin. We’ll bring your bags down on a quad bike, so don’t pack too heavy. There’s lighting, a log burner for heat, and a gas cooker. You can charge a phone or iPad, but that’s it for power.
You can bring up to three dogs.
Llanybydder village is a couple of miles away for basics. For a bigger shop, Lampeter is about a fifteen minute drive. They’ve got a university and some nice cafes. The Brechfa Forest is very close, good for mountain biking or just walking. The river Teifi is good for fishing. For a proper day out, Llanerchaeron is a National Trust house about half an hour away. The coast, like Aberaeron or New Quay, is about a forty minute drive.
Included: all bedding and towels, the wood for the burner, on-site parking. There’s a washing machine back at the main farmhouse you can use if you ask.
It’s for switching off. If you need constant Wi-Fi and a power shower, it’s not the right place. If you want to sit by a fire and listen to the woods, it is.
