Lake View Cottage

The place is called Lake View Cottage, but it's actually a lodge. It's on a family-run camping and caravan site near Muggintonlane End in Derbyshire. It's detached and you get your own decking area.

It sleeps five. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. The master bedroom has a double bed and its own patio doors onto a private deck bit over the lake. The second bedroom has a bunk with two full-size singles and an extra child-sized bed. You have to walk through the master bedroom to get to the second bedroom and the bathroom. The bathroom has both a bath and a separate shower.

Inside it's all open plan. Kitchen, dining, living area. There are big patio doors looking out. It's got a 4 Star rating so it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's clean and tidy.

The site has two lakes. You can see them from the deck. You can fish in them if you've got a licence. There are walks you can start right from the cottage. You're close to some good trails like the Tissington Trail and Monsal Trail. Dovedale and the stepping stones are about a 20-minute drive.

There's a pub about a mile away called The Cock Inn. It's won awards. For food shopping, there's a farm shop on the site and the bigger Chatsworth farm shop is half an hour away. Chatsworth House itself is worth a visit if you like that sort of thing.

Alton Towers is within half an hour if that's your sort of day out. The towns of Ashbourne, Belper and Matlock are all roughly 15 to 30 minutes away by car.

Facilities: wifi, TV, bedding and towels are included, there's a cot, parking right outside, and bike storage. You can bring up to two dogs. It's decorated for Christmas if you book over that period.
