The Saddlery
The Saddlery is in Shirley, on our farm. It's a detached stone building that used to be the groom's quarters. The conversion means everything is on one floor, which is upstairs. You get your own enclosed patio area outside.
It sleeps two. One bedroom, one shower room. It's a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean but not luxury. The windows are the original, tall gothic ones, so they're a feature. The beams are low in a couple of places, so watch your head.
There's a pub that does food about five minutes' walk away. The shop is in the village, about two miles. For a proper supermarket, you'd go into Ashbourne, which is four miles. It's a nice old town with the market and places to eat.
You're right at the edge of the Peak District here. Dovedale is about ten minutes by car. The stepping stones and the valley are good for a walk. Carsington Water is a bit further, maybe twenty minutes. You can sail or walk around it there.
If you want a big day out, Alton Towers is less than half an hour away. You can be walking in the hills one day and on rollercoasters the next.
Facilities: there's parking right outside. WiFi, TV, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, I'm afraid.
