The Saddlery

The Saddlery is just outside Shirley, which is in Derbyshire near the bottom of the Peak District. It's a conversion of the old groom's quarters from our farm. It's detached, so it's just you.

It sleeps two. One bedroom, one shower room. It's got a 3 Star rating. It's clean and everything works, but it's not a fancy hotel. It's all on the first floor, so there are stairs up to the door. The living space is open plan. There are some big gothic windows and exposed beams, so it keeps a lot of the old character.

You've got your own enclosed patio garden out the front. It gets the sun in the morning. Parking is right next to the cottage.

The property is on our farm, so you'll see fields and sheep. The local pub is about five minutes walk away. They do food. The nearest shop for basics is a couple of miles away in Ashbourne.

Ashbourne is a proper old market town about ten minutes by car. Good for shops and places to eat. You're right on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Dovedale is close, maybe a fifteen minute drive, for a walk along the stepping stones. Carsington Water is about twenty minutes away if you fancy sailing or a walk round the reservoir.

If you've got kids to entertain, or you're a big kid yourself, Alton Towers is about twenty-five minutes drive.

For facilities: there's a TV, WiFi, towels and bedding are included, and there's parking. No pets, I'm afraid.

For planning your stay, the National Trust Peak District page is useful.
