Yarde Orchard

Yarde Orchard is a lodge just outside Winswell in Devon. It's detached. One of the main things about it is that it's right next to the Tarka Trail, so it's great for cyclists and walkers. The owners run a café on site. They serve cooked breakfasts and evening meals, which is handy if you don't want to cook.

It sleeps six. There are three bedrooms. One double is downstairs with an en-suite shower and a door to the garden. Upstairs there are two more rooms: a twin and a bunk room. Both upstairs rooms have balconies. There's a bathroom downstairs and an extra toilet. The living area is upstairs too, between the bedrooms, with a smart TV.

It's got a 3 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean but not luxurious. The front has a wood-burning range stove that heats the entrance and the upstairs gallery when it's cold. There's a utility cupboard with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

You park in the free public car park next to the site. The garden is for you to use.

The Tarka Trail is right there. You can walk or cycle for miles on the old railway line without going on roads. It goes through Fremington Quay, Instow, and on to Bideford or Barnstaple.

Great Torrington is about four miles away. It's a small town with independent shops and a market. Barnstaple is about fifteen miles, for bigger shops, a cinema, and a swimming pool. Bideford is under ten miles.

The north Devon coast is about a thirty minute drive. Beaches like Westward Ho!, Saunton Sands, and Woolacombe are all in that range. Exmoor National Park is also within half an hour. Exmoor National Park is good for walking and dark skies. Dartmoor is a bit further but still less than an hour to drive to the edge.

The lodge has wheelchair access at the entrance, grab rails, and a seat in the shower. There's a stairgate and a cot available. Bedding and towels are included. No pets.
