Owls Roost is here in Glasbury, Mid Wales. It's the old hayloft for the farm at Maesllwch Castle. You can still see bits of that. It's a detached place.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable.
The staircase is painted red. It's a proper farmhouse staircase, so the treads are a bit uneven in places. You get used to it.
The ground floor has two bedrooms and a bathroom that connects to both. That bathroom has a door out to the garden, which is handy if you've got kids or a dog coming in muddy. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them.
Upstairs is the main bedroom. It's big, with a four-poster bed. The round windows are original, they used to chuck hay out of them. The en-suite is a shower room. Also up here is the living area. It's a huge room with beams, a wood burner, a big table, sofas, and a kitchen along one wall. There's a dishwasher and a washing machine. We've left a record player with some vinyl, and a few books and board games.
Outside is your own bit of garden with a table and chairs. There's a barbecue. You can see the castle gardens from there. There's also a covered area with a table tennis table. There's a tap for cleaning off muddy boots or dogs, and somewhere to lock up bikes.
You can bring two dogs. There's parking right there.
Glasbury is on the River Wye. You can walk along the river, or go kayaking. The Brecon Beacons National Park starts just the other side of the river. Hay-on-Wye is about four miles away, so that's ten minutes in the car. It's all bookshops and cafes. Good for a wander.
If you want to go further, Brecon is about nine miles. The Elan Valley reservoirs are maybe a 40-minute drive, but it's a lovely drive. Hereford is about 40 minutes the other way.
