Stable Lad's Cottage is in Glasbury. It's in a cobbled courtyard with a few other cottages. It used to be part of the old farm buildings for Maesllwch Castle.
It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, which is handy. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well looked after. The stairs are fine, just normal cottage stairs.
The main living area is one big, light room. It's got a wood burner, a dining table, and a record player with some old vinyls. The kitchen is downstairs, two steps down from there. It has doors out to the courtyard and a little terrace.
You get your own sunny decked area in the shared gardens. There's also a shared ping pong table under an archway, which is useful if it rains. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing dogs. We allow two.
Glasbury itself is quiet. Hay-on-Wye is about three miles away. That's where the bookshops are. There are good walks straight from the door along the river Wye. The Black Mountains are right there.
Brecon is a 15 minute drive. You can get to the Brecon Beacons National Park visitor centre from there. For a longer day out, Elan Valley or the coast around Aberystwyth are both about an hour's drive.
In terms of stuff here: there's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. We leave a small welcome basket. There's a cot and highchair if you need them.
