The Bothy
The Bothy is part of Machermore Castle, which is just outside Newton Stewart. It's a quiet annexe on a private estate. You can walk straight out into the woods from the door.
It sleeps six across three bedrooms. There's one bathroom with a shower. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well looked after. It's an upside-down house, so the bedrooms are on the ground floor and the living room is upstairs. The view from that living room is the main thing. You look out over the garden and towards the River Cree.
For facilities, you've got a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and TV. There's parking right there. Bedding and towels are included. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
The location is what you're really here for. You're right at the edge of the Galloway Forest Park. You can be walking or cycling in the forest within minutes. For mountain biking, the famous 7Stanes trails are close by.
Newton Stewart is just over a mile away for shops, a supermarket, and places to eat. The coast, with places like Portpatrick, is about a half hour drive west. If you want to explore gardens or castles, towns like Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas are within thirty minutes.
