South Lodge
South Lodge is on the Machermore Castle Estate, just outside Newton Stewart. It's a mid-terraced cottage, so it's got neighbours on either side, but it's very quiet. You get woodland walks straight from the door, which is the main thing.
It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There's one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which is good. It means it's comfortable and well looked after. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, but the rest of the cottage isn't specifically adapted, so do check the layout if that's a concern.
You're right at the edge of the Galloway Forest Park. That's a huge area of forest, hills, and lochs. You can see deer and birds of prey. It's good for walking, mountain biking, or just driving through. The Galloway Forest Park site has maps and details.
Newton Stewart is about a mile and a half away. It's got shops, a couple of cafes, and places to eat. For a bigger shop or more choice, Castle Douglas is about a twenty minute drive. The coast at Port William or Portpatrick is roughly half an hour by car. That's where you get the proper sea views.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, TV, WiFi, and parking. The garden is enclosed. You can bring one dog. All bedding and towels are included.
