Helwith Cottage is in Washfold. It's a detached house, very quiet, at the end of a track. The views are over the moors. You'll see sheep and plenty of birds.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both en-suite. It's got a 5 Star rating. It's comfortable and well looked after.
The property is old and the layout reflects that. The rooms aren't huge, but they're enough. There's a wood burning stove. The WiFi is okay but it's not superfast broadband because of the location. The phone signal is patchy.
It's remote. The nearest proper shop is in Barnard Castle, about six miles away. Marske is the closest village, but that's just a pub and a church really. Plan to arrive with your groceries. You can pre-order food from the pub in Barningham village if you arrange it, which is handy.
For a pint or a meal, the pub in Barningham is about ten minutes by car. They do food.
If you're walking, you can go straight out from the door. The bridge down by the stream was used in the 'All Creatures Great and Small' title sequence. Barningham Moor has some ancient stones and burial mounds if you're into that. For a bigger walk, you're not far from Arkengarthdale or Swaledale.
Barnard Castle is a good market town. It has a supermarket, shops, and the Bowes Museum. Richmond is about ten miles away. It's a nice place for a wander around the castle and the market square.
