High Dalton Hall Cottage is a barn conversion on our farm in Newsham. It's detached, so it's just you. The views are good, out over our fields and the Dale. You might see sheep, cows, or the ducks on the pond.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both en-suite, which is handy. It has a 4 Star rating. There's a wood burner in a big stone fireplace. The beams are oak. It's a solid, comfortable place.
You're on a working farm, so you'll hear farm noises. The track up to it is gravel. The wifi works. There's a dishwasher, washing machine, and parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair. No pets, I'm afraid.
There's a hot tub on the patio. You can sit in it and look at the view.
The local pub is about a mile away in the village. They do food. For shops, you'll need to drive to Richmond or the farm shop at Mainsgill, which is about three miles. They do a good breakfast.
For walking, you can start right from the door. There are plenty of footpaths. Richmond is a 20-minute drive. It's a proper market town on the River Swale, with a castle, shops, and places to eat. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is about 15 minutes west. Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum are about 25 minutes north. In under half an hour you can also get to Northallerton, Leyburn, or Darlington.
If you're heading further, Durham is about 40 minutes away. The cathedral is worth seeing. The National Trust has a few properties in the area, like Fountains Abbey.
