Mill Cottage
Mill Cottage is a barn conversion on a farm in West Layton. It's for two people. Everything is on the ground floor, which is handy.
It's got a high ceiling with the old wooden beams still showing. The main room is open plan, so the kitchen, dining area and sitting area are all together. The bedroom has a large bed that can be split into two singles if you ask beforehand. The bathroom is en-suite and has a bath with a shower over it.
The heating is underfloor and runs on a biomass boiler, so it’s very warm and steady. There's a private garden at the front with a view over the fields. The owner keeps chickens and ducks nearby, and they sometimes wander over.
You're about seven miles from both Richmond and Barnard Castle. Richmond is a nice market town with a castle and a theatre. Barnard Castle has the Bowes Museum and the actual castle ruins. A good local pub is a couple of miles away, and there's a farm shop nearby for supplies.
For a bigger trip, Durham is about half an hour's drive. It's a World Heritage Site with the cathedral and university. The Yorkshire Dales are also about 30 minutes away if you want proper walking. You're well placed for the A1 and A66 if you're driving further.
Facilities include a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking right outside. Bedding and towels are provided. There's a cot and highchair if needed.
