The Calving Barn
The Calving Barn is in Blackmoor Gate, which is right on the edge of Exmoor. It's a conversion, so it was a barn for calving cows originally. It sleeps four, in two bedrooms, and there's one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating.
The main things are the location and the space. It's very quiet. The courtyard is enclosed, which is good if you bring a dog. You can bring one dog. There's also a shared pond area on site, and in the summer there's a games room open for everyone.
Wistlandpound Reservoir is basically next door. It's good for a short, flat walk. This area is a Dark Sky Reserve, so on a clear night you can see a lot of stars from outside the cottage.
You're about a 15-minute drive from the coast at Combe Martin. Ilfracombe is about 20 minutes. For the big surf beaches like Saunton or Croyde, you're looking at roughly half an hour in the car. Exmoor is on your doorstep for walking. The National Trust looks after a lot of it.
Inside, it's got beams. The kitchen has a walnut worktop. There's a freestanding bath and a separate walk-in shower. All the bedding and towels are included. There's WiFi, parking, and a washing machine.
It's one of a few cottages here. They can be booked together if you're coming with more people.
