The Engine Room
The Engine Room is a converted turbine house, part of a mill from the late 1700s. It's on a site with a few other cottages, so it's quiet but not completely isolated. You're in Hanlith, right in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. One bedroom is on the ground floor with doors out to a deck. The other two are downstairs on a lower level.
The main thing is the old water turbine engine. It's still there in the living room, about fifteen feet long. It's just part of the room. There's a glass porthole in the floor showing the water channel underneath. The décor is bright and colourful, a bit different. There's a large round hole in the wall between the dining area and the hall. And there's an old Land Rover built into a wall, used as a cupboard. The lights on the back work.
You have a deck area that looks over the river. There are about eight acres of shared gardens and woodland to walk around. You might see herons, kingfishers, that sort of thing. The paths lead onto the National Park footpaths. You can walk to Malham from here.
For shops and pubs, you'll need to drive. Grassington, Skipton, and Settle are all about twenty-five minutes away. Malham Cove and Tarn are very close. National Trust Yorkshire Dales properties like Brimham Rocks or Fountains Abbey are within half an hour.
The facilities are all there. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, parking. Bedding and towels are included. It's a 5 Star rating, so it's well kitted out. No pets.
