The Old Post Office is an old cottage in Fir Tree. It used to be the village post office, built around the early 1800s. It’s a semi-detached house. It sleeps eight, but that’s across three bedrooms and a sofa bed. So it’s spacious, good for families.
It’s got a 4 Star rating. The kitchen is big, with a gas range cooker and an oak table. There’s a snug room with a wood burner and a separate living room with a TV. The sofa bed is in there.
One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor. That’s a twin room. There’s also a downstairs toilet and a utility room. That’s handy for dogs or bikes. Speaking of dogs, you can bring one pet.
Upstairs, there’s a lounge with a view towards Hamsterley Forest. Then there’s a double bedroom with its own shower room, a kingsize bedroom, and a family bathroom.
The garden is yours to use and it's enclosed. There’s parking on site.
Outside, there’s a dog walking paddock and a kids’ play area just a short walk away. You can walk down to the River Wear from here. Hamsterley Forest is nearby, great for walking and cycling.
You’re right on the A68, so getting around is straightforward. Durham city is about a 30 minute drive, with the cathedral and river. The Beamish Museum is also about half an hour away. Barnard Castle is close, and so is Raby Castle.
There’s a local shop at the garage. A pub and a restaurant are about 175 yards away, both serve food.
