Moss House

This is Moss House, in Sunniside. It's a village, quiet, but you're not far from anything. The cottage itself is Victorian, solid stone. We finished a full renovation in 2023, so everything works and it's properly insulated, but we kept the original features where we could.

It sleeps eight, in four bedrooms. Two bathrooms, one has a walk-in shower. There's a big living room with a wood burner, and the dining room has another one. The kitchen leads off it, so if someone's cooking, they're not cut off.

Upstairs, there's a sauna in the main bedroom. Honestly, we put it in because we could, and it's quite nice after a long walk. Across the lane, there's a separate games room with a full-size snooker table, a darts board, and a projector screen.

Outside, over the lane again, is the garden. It's enclosed, mostly lawn with a patio and a BBQ. Opposite the cottage is a community field with an outdoor gym, a kids' play park, and a football court. Anyone staying can use it.

We run the village pub, which is about a hundred yards away. It's a proper local, does steaks and grills. You're welcome, of course.

For getting out, you can walk straight from the door into the countryside. Durham is about 20 minutes by car. Newcastle is 45. The coast, like Seaham, is about 40 minutes. Beamish Museum is half an hour away and it's very good. If you're heading into Northumberland or up to Scotland, you're right by the A68.

Facilities: it's all there. Washing machine, WiFi, parking for three cars, bike storage. Bedding and towels are included. We allow up to three dogs. There's a hot tub in the garden.
