Colliery Cottage is in Cornsay Colliery, which is a quiet village near Durham. It's a former miner's cottage, so the walls are thick and the rooms feel solid. It looks out over Steeley Hill Woods.
It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. One has a kingsize bed, the other has two singles that can be a kingsize if you ask when you book. There's one bathroom with a shower over the bath. The rating is 4 Star. It's comfortable and well looked after.
The living room is at the front with the view. There's a separate dining room with a wood burner. The kitchen is modern and has what you need. The garden out the back is enclosed and has a lawn.
For local walks, Steeley Hill Woods are right opposite, and there's a children's park there too. About five minutes' drive away there's a garden centre with a cafe, a reptile house, and a duck pond.
Durham is about seven miles away. It's the main city, with the cathedral and university. Newcastle and Sunderland are within a half hour drive for shopping or a night out.
The coast is about 45 minutes away if you want a beach. For days out, Beamish Museum is very close. Hamsterley Forest and Derwent Reservoir are both good for walking and are within 30 minutes.
Facilities: all the usual, like a washing machine, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. We have a cot and a highchair. You can bring up to two dogs. There's parking on the drive.
