One The Old Stables is one of three cottages here in East Butsfield. It's attached to the owner's house, but you've got your own front door and a private garden. The views from the back are over fields.
It sleeps four in two double bedrooms. One bathroom with a walk-in shower. Everything's on the ground floor, so no stairs to worry about. It's a 5 Star place, which means it's well finished and kept spotless. The bedding is good quality.
You can bring up to two dogs. There's a paddock and stables on site, so if you wanted to bring a horse, you'd need to arrange that with the owner beforehand.
The cottage has what you'd expect: a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking right outside. We leave a welcome pack with some bits from the local farm shop.
The nearest pub and shop are about half a mile away in Knitsley. The pub does food.
For walking, you can pick up footpaths and bridleways right from the door into the Durham Dales. Durham city is about a 20-minute drive. The cathedral and castle are worth seeing. Durham Cathedral has all the visiting information.
Beamish Museum is also about 20 minutes away. It's a good day out if you like living history. Newcastle's under half an hour for a night out or shopping. For a dramatic walk, High Force waterfall is about a 40-minute drive.
Useful links if you're planning: Visit County Durham and for the wider area, Northumberland National Park is about an hour north.
