The Stables is in Brandon, in County Durham. It's about two miles out from Durham city centre. It's a detached place, in the garden behind our house. Next to it is another cottage called The Hen House, but they're separate. You've got your own garden, it's enclosed. It looks out over fields.
It sleeps three. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well looked after. The main living area is open plan, with French doors. There's a wood burner for cooler evenings.
There's a local shop and a pub about a mile away. You can walk into Durham from here if you don't mind a couple of miles. It's a straightforward path. Durham is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so the Cathedral and Castle are the big draw. The Gala Theatre and Freeman's Quay Leisure Centre are close by in the city.
If you're visiting someone at Durham University, most of the colleges are only about five minutes away by car.
For a day out, Bishop Auckland is 15 minutes by car. They run the Kynren show there in the summer. It's a big outdoor historical performance. Barnard Castle is about half an hour's drive. The North Pennines and the Durham Dales are within easy reach for walking.
Facilities: there's parking on site, a washing machine, a dishwasher, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's bicycle storage if you need it. No pets, I'm afraid.
