The Stables
The Stables is in Brandon. It's about two miles from Durham city centre. The cottage is detached, set behind our house but it's private. You get your own garden, it's enclosed.
It sleeps three. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-equipped.
Downstairs is open plan. There's a wood burner. French doors open to the garden with a view over the fields. It's a quiet spot.
You can walk into Durham from here if you don't mind a 40-minute stroll. Most people drive, it's about five minutes. The cathedral and castle are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There's shops, the Gala Theatre, and the Freemans Quay leisure centre with a pool.
A shop and a pub are about a mile away. In Durham itself there's plenty of choice for eating.
If you're driving out, Bishop Auckland is 15 minutes. The Kynren show runs in summer. For walking, the river paths are good. You can get out to the Durham Dales or to Barnard Castle in under half an hour. The Yorkshire Dales are about an hour's drive.
Facilities: there's parking, WiFi, a TV, washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. There's bicycle storage. Sorry, no pets.
The Stables is next to another cottage called The Hen House. They can be booked together if you need space for five.
