If you fancy a game of golf, within 2 minutes’ walk you will reach the Redcar Lynx Golf Course. The next resort along the coast is Saltburn-by-the-Sea which itself boasts a picturesque Victorian promenade and pier and is a surfer’s paradise.
Redcar is just on the edge of the North York Moors National Park with a friendly nature reserve so is ideally situated for those who want to sample some of the prettiest countryside in the county. Take a nostalgic ride on the steam train that chugs its way from Whitby deep into the heart of the North York Moors. Alternatively, explore the many bays and coves along the heritage coast such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay or Staithes.
The harbour town of Whitby is just 20 miles away and is an experience of its own. It is the home of Whitby Abbey which was made famous by Bram Stoker’s ’Dracula’, cobbled back streets and a bustling harbour. Keep an eye out for the many festivals and events held here each year from a regatta to a Goth festival or take a sea fishing trip on one of the many tourist boats. Visiting Goathland is a must with it being famously known as the setting for TVs ’Heartbeat’. For a dog friendly stay most of the beaches along the coast including Redcar have sections which welcome dogs all year round, and there are many fabulous walks to enjoy together, including Roseberry Topping which has spectacular views and the Cleveland Way along the cliff tops.
