The Ffestiniog Railway passes through the valley, and the train can be seen throughout the day from the cottage, with its steam billowing and its whistle hooting - it really is a delight.
It’s ideally placed for enjoying the delights of the Snowdonia National Park. Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales and England, is a magnet for climbers, walkers and tourists alike. If you don’t want to walk up it, go the easy way up on the Snowdon Mountain Railway. The area has an excellent range of outdoor pursuits, historic castles and family attractions. The picturesque Italianate village of Portmeirion, designed by Sir Clough Williams Ellis, is well worth a visit, as is the glorious sandy beach at Black Rock Sands, great for all ages, as you can drive your car onto the vast expanse of sands. Blaenau Ffestiniog, the adventure capital of North Wales, is easily accessible, with the largest zip wire zone in the world, Bounce Below underground trampolining and the Antur Stiniog downhill bike trails, for those looking for a day at the beach. Harlech Beach and castle are approximately 7 miles from the property. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
