The Old Barn is one of two holiday apartments in a barn on our farm here in Acrise. It's on the first floor, so you go up a set of external stairs to get in. The other one, Dene Corner, is on the ground floor. You share the gated courtyard with them, but it's a big space.
It sleeps seven in four bedrooms, with one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well looked after. It's a barn conversion though, so the ceilings are high and the rooms feel big, but it's not a fancy new build. It's just a nice, solid place to stay.
You're right in the middle of the farm. You'll see sheep and cattle in the fields around you. There's a games room in another barn nearby with a pool table, which is handy if the weather turns.
The location is quiet. You're in the Kent Downs, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The footpath network starts at the gate, so you can walk or cycle for miles without getting in the car. You can arrange horse riding locally too.
For shops, you need to drive. The nearest is about two miles away in Elham. There's a pub and a restaurant about three miles away.
Canterbury is about a twenty-minute drive. You've got the cathedral, the river, all of that. Folkestone is fifteen minutes south, and Dover with the castle and the cliffs is about twenty minutes. The Channel Tunnel terminal is very close if you fancied a day trip to France.
Animal parks like Port Lympne and Howletts are within half an hour if you've got kids with you.
Facilities in the barn: there's WiFi, a TV, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and a highchair. There's parking right outside. You can bring one well-behaved dog.
