The Bunker
The Bunker is one of the lodges near Otterburn, in Northumberland. It’s detached and backs right onto the trees at the edge of the park. The decking faces south, so it gets the sun. The hot tub is out there, private to you.
It sleeps eight. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It’s got a 4 Star rating, which means it’s well kitted out. TVs in all the bedrooms. The main living area is open plan with big windows.
You'll see wildlife around. Red squirrels are common. The skies are very dark here at night, good for seeing stars. The site restaurant is about a three-minute walk away, they do meals. There’s a village shop a mile away for basics.
You’re basically in the Northumberland National Park. For walking, you can start straight from the lodge. Kielder Water and Forest Park is about a 30-minute drive. That’s where the observatory is, if you’re into stargazing. Bellingham is about nine miles away. It’s a small town with a couple of pubs, cafes, and a decent food store.
The coast is about an hour’s drive. You’ve got places like Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh, and miles of beaches over there.
Facilities: it’s all included. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, bedding and towels. There’s parking right by the lodge. You can bring one dog. We’ve got a cot and a highchair if needed.
