Horsley Cottage is in the village of Horsley, just inside the Northumberland National Park. It's a proper detached stone cottage. It was built a long time ago and we had it done up a few years ago. It's not huge, but it's solid and quiet.
It sleeps five people in two bedrooms. There's one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so the fittings are decent and it's clean, but you won't find a hot tub or anything like that. It's all on one level from the parking area to the front door. There are a couple of internal steps once you're inside, but they're not steep.
You're right on Lord Redesdale's estate here. There's a footpath from the garden gate that goes through the woods for about half a mile. It comes out at the local pub. They do food.
The nearest shop is about four miles away in Otterburn. It's a good idea to stock up on your way here. The proper dark skies are the big thing. There are no street lights, so on a clear night you can see everything. It's an International Dark Sky Park.
For days out, Hadrian's Wall is less than half an hour's drive. The Northumberland National Park site has good walk ideas. Kielder Forest is about 25 minutes away if you want cycling or the water park. The coast, like Alnwick or Bamburgh, is about a 45 minute drive. Hexham is a nice market town, about 35 minutes.
Inside, it's got a wood burner. We leave some logs for you to start with. There's a dishwasher, a washing machine, WiFi, and a TV. The garden is enclosed. You can bring up to two dogs. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them.
