The Bothy
The Bothy is in Buckland, near Lymington. It's a semi-detached cottage at the end of a quiet lane. You can walk to Lymington high street in about twenty minutes, or drive it in five.
It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. One bedroom and a bathroom are downstairs, which is useful. It's a 4 Star place. It's comfortable, not minimalist.
The kitchen has an Aga and flagstone floors. The living room has a wood burner and doors out to the garden. The garden is enclosed, which is good for dogs or kids. There's a separate games room with table football, air hockey, and a big TV. It's a bit of a hideaway for teenagers.
You can have up to three dogs. There's a pub about a quarter of a mile away that does food. The local shop is a mile.
You're on the edge of the New Forest. Open forest is a four-minute drive. You'll see the ponies. For a proper beach, you need to drive to places like Milford-on-Sea or Bournemouth.
Lymington is the main town. It's a proper sailing place with a busy Saturday market, shops, and places to eat. The quay is nice to wander around.
For days out, the New Forest is all around you for walking and cycling. National Trust New Forest has good information. Beaulieu Motor Museum and Exbury Gardens are close. Further afield, within an hour or so, you've got the Jurassic Coast, the tank museum at Bovington, or the ferry to the Isle of Wight from Southampton.
Facilities: everything on the list is there. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, cot, highchair, parking for a couple of cars. Bedding and towels are included.
