Spoutscroft Cottage is in Austwick. It's a small village in the Yorkshire Dales. You'll see the sign for it on the main road between Ingleton and Settle.
The cottage was built in the 1700s. It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs, each has its own ornamental fireplace that isn't used. Two bathrooms, one is just a shower room downstairs. It's a 4 Star place. It's comfortable and clean. The stairs are stone, quite steep, and they turn sharply, so mind your head.
The living room has a flagged stone floor and a proper open fire. We leave some wood for you. The kitchen is small but it's got everything, including a dishwasher. There's a utility room with the washing machine.
Outside, there's a small garden at the front with a patio. At the back, there's another seating area that looks straight out onto the fields. You get rabbits and birds out there.
Austwick has a community shop and post office, about five minutes' walk. The pub is about ten minutes' walk. They do food. There's a very good restaurant about a mile away, up the road towards Horton.
For walking, you can start right from the door. Footpaths go off in all directions. If you want a bigger challenge, the Yorkshire Dales National Park site has routes. The famous Three Peaks are all within a 30 minute drive. For cycling, Gisburn Forest is about 20 minutes by car for mountain biking.
Settle is five miles east. It's a proper market town with supermarkets, a few shops, and some good pubs. Ingleton, about seven miles west, has the waterfalls walk and an outdoor swimming pool.
We're close to the Lancashire and Cumbria borders. You can be in the southern Lake District, around Windermere, in under an hour. Kendal is about half an hour. The Forest of Bowland is about 40 minutes drive.
Facilities: we've got WiFi, a TV, a highchair and a stairgate if you need them. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog. There's bike storage in the outbuilding.
