Jamie's Shepherds Hut

Jamie's Shepherds Hut is on a complex on the edge of Bowness on Solway. It's one of four huts. It's detached, so you've got your own space with a little patio.

It sleeps three. There's one bedroom with a double bed and a single bunk above it, and one bathroom with a shower. It's a 3 Star rating, so it's clean and has what you need without being posh. You do get bedding and towels included. One well-behaved dog is allowed.

The site is a former Roman fort, which is why it's called The Garrison. They've got a small visitor centre with a model of the old fort and some souvenirs. There's also a bistro on site that does good food, and a guests' gym you can use.

In the village, a few minutes' walk away, there's a pub and a tearoom. For more choice, Silloth is a short drive along the coast. It has cafes and a good golf course.

The location is good for getting out. You're right on the Solway Coast, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The hut is on the Hadrian's Cycleway route, so it's popular with cyclists. It's also on the coast-to-coast walking path. Carlisle is about half an hour's drive for the castle and shops. The edge of the Lake District National Park is about 30 minutes away.
