John Collingwood Bruce Suite

The John Collingwood Bruce Suite is part of The Garrison, which is on the site of an old Roman fort in Bowness on Solway. It's one of four studio apartments there. You're right at the western end of Hadrian's Wall.

It's a studio, so it sleeps two in one room. There's a bathroom with a walk in shower. It's got a 4 Star rating. The space is modern and open plan.

Outside your door, you share the site with a few other apartments and some shepherd's huts. There's a decent on-site gym you can use and a bistro that does good food. They found a lot of Roman bits when they built the place, so there's a small visitor centre with a model of the old fort.

Bowness itself is a small village. There's a pub and a tearoom within walking distance. The local coastline is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

For a drive, Silloth is along the coast and has cafes and a golf course. Carlisle is about half an hour away for shopping or the castle. The start of the Lake District National Park is also about thirty minutes' drive. It's a good base for the northern lakes without being in the middle of the crowds.

The place is popular with walkers and cyclists. The coast to coast path finishes here, and Hadrian's Cycleway runs through the village.

Facilities in the suite include a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi and TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's on-site parking. A cot and highchair are available if needed. Sorry, no pets.
