John Collingwood Bruce Suite

This is the John Collingwood Bruce Suite. It's part of The Garrison up in Bowness on Solway. It's a one-bedroom place, just for two people. It's got a 4 Star rating, which is good.

It's a studio apartment, so the living, kitchen, and sleeping area are all in one open-plan space. There's a proper separate bathroom with a walk-in shower. The bed is a double. It's all on the ground floor.

You're staying on an old Roman fort site. They found a lot of artefacts when they built the place. There's a small visitor centre on site with a model of how the fort once looked. It's interesting if you're into history.

The property itself is clean and modern. You've got a TV, WiFi, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. There's a patio area outside. Parking is right there.

As part of the complex, you can use the on-site gym. There's also a bistro that does good food. In the village, about a five-minute walk, there's a pub that does meals and a tearoom.

The location is very much for outdoors. You're right on the end of Hadrian's Wall Path, so it's a popular stop for coast-to-coast walkers. You're also on Cycleway 72. The whole area is part of the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Good for birdwatching.

For days out, Carlisle is about half an hour's drive. You've got the castle and shopping there. Silloth is a short drive along the coast; it's a nice Victorian seaside town with a good links golf course. The northern edge of the Lake District National Park is within 30 minutes if you want to get to the fells.

You can bring one well-behaved dog. A travel cot and highchair are available if you need them. Bedding and towels are included.
