North Plain Barn

North Plain Barn is in Bowness on Solway. It's a converted barn, semi-detached, so you’ve got neighbours on one side. The big thing is the view. It looks west over the Solway Firth towards Scotland. The sunsets can be really good.

It sleeps eleven. Five bedrooms, four bathrooms. It’s got a 5 Star rating because it’s well finished and has a lot of space. The main living area is upstairs to make the most of the view. There’s a wood burner up there too. Downstairs there’s a games room with a full-size pool table and a TV, so people can spread out.

The master bedroom has a super king bed and an en-suite with a roll-top bath and a separate shower. One room has three single beds, ideal for kids, with its own shower room. There are two more doubles, a family bathroom, and a separate wet room on the ground floor.

Outside, there’s a first-floor balcony with seating and a patio area downstairs with a charcoal barbecue. The garden is enclosed. You can walk to the coast path in a couple of minutes. The beach is shingle and mudflats, more for walking than swimming.

The location is quiet. The nearest pub is about a mile and a half away in the village. The shop is six miles away in Kirkbride, so you’ll want to drive for groceries. Carlisle is about a 15-minute drive for supermarkets and the like.

For things to do, you’re right on the end of Hadrian’s Wall Path. You can walk east from the door. The Solway Coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Lake District northern fells, like Caldbeck, are within a 30-minute drive. You can be in Scotland in about 25 minutes, Gretna Green is just over the border.

Facilities: it has pretty much everything. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV, cot, highchair, stairgate. Bedding and towels are included. There’s parking on site. No pets.
