Dandy Lodge

Dandy Lodge is in Bowness on Solway, right out on the coast. It's part of a holiday complex called The Garrison. The whole site was a Roman fort, which is pretty interesting. There's a small visitor centre with a model of the fort.

It's a studio apartment for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and modern. The shower is a walk-in type with grab rails.

The complex has a gym you can use and a bistro on site that does good food. In the village itself, there's a tearoom and a pub within walking distance.

You're on the edge of the Solway Coast, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The place is very popular with walkers and cyclists. Hadrian's Wall Path and Cycleway 72 both run right through. A lot of people doing the coast-to-coast route stay here.

Carlisle is about a half hour drive for shops and history, like the castle. The northern part of the Lake District National Park is also roughly 30 minutes away if you want lakes and fells.

Facilities wise: there's a dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. Parking is on site. One well-behaved pet is allowed.

Useful links for planning: National Trust Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall Country.
