The Moat House is in Annan. It's a 19th century house that's been done up. It sleeps ten, in five bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, both are large wet rooms with walk-in showers.
The rating is 5 Star, which here means it's been specifically adapted for wheelchair users and people with limited mobility. That's the main thing about it. There's a lift inside, hoists in two bedrooms, electric beds in three, and the kitchen counters can be raised or lowered. If you don't need those things, it's just a very spacious, comfortable house. But that's why it's here.
The house was built on the bank of an old moat, from an 11th century castle. You can see the other side of the moat from the garden. The garden itself is enclosed and quite peaceful.
You're about 200 yards from the main street in Annan. There's a shop, a few pubs, and a restaurant or two up there. The coast is about a mile and a half away. The beach is sandy.
For things to do, Dumfriesshire has a lot of history. Caerlaverock Castle is a moated triangular castle about half an hour's drive away. Drumlanrig Castle is a big estate with gardens and mountain biking trails, also within 30 minutes. There's coarse and trout fishing within five miles if you have a license.
Facilities: everything on the list is here. Wifi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine, cot, highchair, barbecue. The garden is enclosed. Up to four well-behaved dogs are welcome. All bedding and towels are included.
