The Barnacle Goose

The Barnacle Goose is in Bowness on Solway. It’s a converted stone barn, mid-way in a row of three. You can see the Solway Firth from the front garden, and Scotland on the other side.

It sleeps eight. There are three bedrooms upstairs. One has a super king bed and an ensuite shower. Another has a king bed. The third room has two sets of bunk beds and its own ensuite toilet. There’s also a family bathroom on that floor.

Downstairs is mostly one big space. The kitchen is at one end with a big table. The sitting area is at the other end with a large TV above the fireplace. The walls are the original stone. It’s a solid, roomy place.

Outside, there’s a front garden with seating and a barbecue. It’s set back from a quiet shared lane. You get the sunset over the water.

Bowness is right on the coast. You can walk out from the cottage onto the marshes and the Solway shore. It’s an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The local nature reserve starts just up the road.

For a day out, Hadrian’s Wall isn’t far. Carlisle is about fifteen minutes by car. The northern edge of the Lake District, like Keswick, is roughly half an hour’s drive. You can be in Gretna Green in Scotland in twenty minutes.

It’s got a 5 Star rating. That means it’s well-equipped and finished to a high standard. The facilities list is accurate. There’s parking, WiFi, a washing machine, and a cot and highchair if you need them. You can bring up to two dogs.
