Poppy Cottage

Poppy Cottage is in Strensall, which is on the edge of York. It's all on one floor. Sleeps four, two bedrooms, one bathroom. It has a 4 Star rating.

The main room is open plan. The ceiling is high, which makes it feel bigger, and the French doors let in a lot of light. There's a wood burner for colder nights. The kitchen is modern and has everything you'd need.

Outside, there's a deck with a four-person hot tub. The garden is yours to use. Parking is on site.

Strensall itself is a village. There are a few pubs, a couple of shops, and a fish and chip shop. The River Foss runs through it. Strensall Common is right there, a big area for walks. It's managed by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust if you want to read up.

York is about seven miles away. You can drive or get the bus. It's got everything you'd expect: the Minster, the railway museum, the Viking centre, shops and restaurants. It's a full day out easily.

If you want to drive out, Castle Howard is about half an hour north. The North York Moors are to the east, maybe a 40 minute drive to get into the proper scenery. Pickering is where the steam train to Whitby starts. The coast at Scarborough or Filey is about an hour.

Facilities: there's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair if you need them. No pets, sorry.

This cottage is one of four on the same site. They can be booked together for bigger groups.

For planning days out: City of York Council has tourist info, and North York Moors National Park is useful for the moors.
