Poppy Cottage

Poppy Cottage is on the edge of Strensall village, about seven miles north of York. It's a single-storey lodge, so everything is on one level. There are two bedrooms and sleeps four people. It has a 4 Star rating.

The main room is open plan, with a kitchen, dining area and sitting area together. There are French doors out to the decking. The ceiling is vaulted so it feels quite spacious. The kitchen is modern.

Outside, there's a deck with a four-person hot tub. The garden is enclosed. Parking is right next to the cottage.

In the village, there are a couple of shops, a post office, and three pubs. Strensall Common is nearby, which is a big heathland area looked after by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. Good for walks and birdwatching. York Golf Club is just on the other side of the common.

There's a regular bus from the village into York city centre, which takes about 25 minutes. York has the Minster, the city walls, the Railway Museum, and the Jorvik Centre. Lots of pubs and restaurants.

Within about half an hour's drive, you can get to places like Castle Howard, Beningbrough Hall, and the market town of Easingwold. The edge of the North York Moors is about a 40 minute drive, near Pickering.

The facilities are pretty complete. It has a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and a woodburning stove for colder nights. Bedding and towels are included. A cot and highchair are there if you need them. No pets allowed.

This cottage is one of four on the same site. They can be booked together for larger groups.

For planning days out, these sites are useful: City of York Council for tourist information, and North York Moors National Park.
