Thompsons Arms Cottages No1

Thompson Arms Cottages No1 is in Flaxton. It's a one-bedroom cottage for two people. The bedroom is upstairs and it has its own bathroom, a shower room really.

It's detached, but there's another cottage next door, No2. You can book them together if you're a group of four. The place has a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and modern inside, open plan downstairs. Everything's included: bedding, towels, wifi. There's a TV, a highchair, and a cot if you need it.

The cottage is right next to a pub, The Thompsons Arms. That's our place, we run it. It's friendly, 25 yards from your door. You get a little courtyard garden and your own parking space.

You're about eight miles from York. It's an easy drive. York has everything: the Minster, the Railway Museum, the Jorvik Centre. Lots of good pubs and cafes.

In the other direction, you've got the Howardian Hills for walking. Castle Howard is nearby. The market towns of Easingwold and Helmsley aren't far. If you like history, the ruins at Byland Abbey and Rievaulx Abbey are worth a visit.

You can get to the North York Moors in about half an hour. Pickering is the place to get the steam train to Whitby. The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is about a 20-minute drive.
