This is Violet Cottage in Newbiggin by the Sea. It's a terrace cottage built in 1904. You get the front garden to yourselves. The main thing is the view: you look right out over the bay. There's a sculpture out in the water called 'The Couple'. You can watch the lifeboat practice on Sundays.
It sleeps five people in three bedrooms. There's one bathroom. It's a 3 Star place, so it's comfortable and clean. The stairs are quite steep.
The promenade is right outside. There's a ramp down to it from the garden gate. It's about a mile long for walking. The beach here is usually quiet. There's an ice cream parlour halfway along and a Maritime Centre with a cafe at the end.
Newbiggin is a small place. There's a good wet fish shop and a chippy. You've got an Italian, an Indian, a few takeaways, and a local shop all within walking distance. The bus stops on the corner.
Morpeth is about nine miles inland. It's a nice market town with a river and shops.
For a bigger day out, the Heritage Coast is about half an hour's drive north. That's where the big castles like Bamburgh and Alnwick are, along with long beaches. Northumberland Coast AONB has the details. Inland, you can get to the Northumberland National Park and the Dark Sky Park in under an hour.
South, Tynemouth and Whitley Bay are about a 30 minute drive. Tynemouth has a big weekend market in the station.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, a dishwasher, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a highchair. No pets, sorry.
