Beside The Sea

This is Beside The Sea. It's a two-bedroom place in Newbiggin by the Sea, right on the Northumberland coast. It sleeps four.

It's called Beside The Sea because it is. You look out the front windows and there's the sea. One of the upstairs bedrooms has a view of it too. There's a bench at the front where you can sit and watch it.

There's no garden, but there's a small enclosed yard at the back. The place was all redone in 2022, so it's in good order. It has a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped.

You're about thirty yards from the beach. It's sandy with rock pools. Part of it is dog-friendly all year. A map inside shows you where. We take one pet.

You can walk straight out onto the promenade. It's flat and goes the length of the bay. There's an ice cream place near the bandstand, and the Maritime Centre by the church does coffee. Further along is Cafe Needles Eye, which does food and drink, and you can rent paddle boards there. They also have a sea-view sauna you can book online. The park run starts just up the promenade.

In the village, there's a shop, a bakery, a butcher, takeaways, and a couple of pubs and restaurants all within a few minutes' walk. The local lifeboat station is one of the oldest working ones, and they have a shop open on Sundays.

If you want to go further out, it's a good base for driving. Morpeth is about nine miles inland and has shops and a nice river walk. Amble's market is about thirteen miles north. You can drive up the coast to places like Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh, or Seahouses. heading south, Whitley Bay and Tynemouth are about thirteen miles.

For local walks and birdwatching, Church Point here in Newbiggin is good for seabirds and sometimes seals. The coastal path north leads to Druridge Bay after about four miles. The Northumberland County Council Country Parks page has details on places like Druridge. For broader history and days out, English Heritage looks after a lot of the castles up here, like Warkworth.

In terms of what's here, the listing covers it: wifi, TV, wood burner, all bedding and towels are included. The entrance is wheelchair accessible. The bathroom has a shower.
