The Wheelhouse is a couple of miles outside Linlithgow, down a private track. It's an old watermill. It’s detached and looks out over the River Avon.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms, and there are two bathrooms. It’s a 4 Star place. It's been done up well. You can hear the river from the house.
There are two verandas. One is off a bedroom. You can sit out there. There's also a hot tub on the patio, which looks at the river. If you fancy fishing, you can try for trout right there.
The track is a bit loose in places, so drive carefully. It's very quiet though.
Linlithgow is about four miles away. You've got shops, pubs, and the train station there. The palace is right in the middle of town. You can get a train to Edinburgh from Linlithgow, it takes about 20 minutes. Driving into Edinburgh is about half an hour, depending on traffic.
There are golf courses nearby. You can go horse riding locally too. For walks, the National Trust for Scotland page for the palace is a good start, or you can look at the John Muir Way for longer routes.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, bedding and towels are included, a BBQ, and parking. You can bring up to two dogs. There's wifi. It’s all electric.
