The Bothy is in Polmont, near Falkirk. It's one of six little places in the walled garden of Kinneil House. It's quiet, but you're right in the middle of everything.
It sleeps four, but it's one open-plan room downstairs with a bed for two, a kitchen and a shower room. The ladder goes up to a den with two more mattress beds, which is good for older kids. To be clear, it's not suitable for children under twelve. The stairs are a ladder.
You have your own little garden bit next to the veg patch. There's a shared hot tub and a BBQ area in the main garden. You'll see rabbits and sometimes deer.
Location is the main thing. You're a fifteen minute drive from Edinburgh airport. Edinburgh and Glasgow city centres are about half an hour away. But you're also a two-minute walk into the woods by the Antonine Wall, and the edge of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park is about forty minutes by car.
For things to do, the Falkirk Wheel and The Kelpies are very close. Linlithgow Palace and Blackness Castle aren't far either. If you want to plan trips, the National Trust for Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland sites are useful.
It has a 4 Star rating. Facilities include a log burner, WiFi, TV, washer, dishwasher, and parking. Bedding and towels are included.
