Oak

Oak is a cabin in Logie Coldstone, which is in Aberdeenshire. We're in the Cairngorms National Park. It's a proper bothy experience, but a bit smarter.

It sleeps up to four people. It's just the one bedroom though, so that's either two couples, or a small family. One bathroom, with a shower. The main space is open plan. It's got a 4 Star rating.

It's off-grid. That means power comes from solar panels, and water is rainwater harvested. There's a wood-burning stove for heat and for atmosphere. It works well, but you need to manage it. You're warm and you have lights, but it's not like plugging into the mains.

The cabin is detached. You get a patio and garden area to yourselves. There's parking right there. Bedding and towels are included. It's pet friendly, up to two dogs.

Being here is about the quiet and the forest. You can hear the river from the garden. For things to do, you're right in the Cairngorms. Good walking and mountain biking from the door. There's local fishing and horse riding. A golf course is nearby. Crathes Castle and its gardens are worth a visit, and Loch Muick is good for a walk or a picnic.

For more information to help plan your trip, the Cairngorms National Park website is useful, as is National Trust for Scotland Crathes Castle.
