Hawthorn

This place is called Hawthorn. It's an off-grid bothy in Logie Coldstone, Aberdeenshire.

It sleeps four, but in one room. It's got a mezzanine sleeping platform, so it's more of a bunk space up there. There is one bathroom. It's rated 4 Star. It's comfortable, but it is a bothy.

It's off-grid, so it runs on solar power and rainwater. The lights and sockets work fine. The water is from a harvested supply, so you need to be a bit mindful with it. There's a wood-burning stove for heat. It's very warm once it gets going.

The setting is the main thing. It's detached and sits alone in a private patch of forest within the Cairngorms National Park. It's quiet. You're just in the trees.

You can bring two dogs. There's parking right by the bothy.

For things to do, you're right in the Cairngorms. Good walking and cycling from the door. The Cairngorms National Park Authority website has trail maps. Crathes Castle and its gardens are about a 15-minute drive. For a scenic drive, the road up to Braemar and then over to Glenshee is about half an hour away.

Facilities are listed. Bedding and towels are included. There's a garden area with the bothy. There is no mains electricity or water, it's all off-grid systems.
