The Treehouse @ Caerlaverock

The Treehouse is on our land just outside Shearington, near Glencaple. It's a one-off place, built up in the trees. You look straight out over the estuary to Criffel hill. It's a good view, changes all the time with the weather.

It's for two people only. One bedroom, one shower room. It's a 5 Star place, which means it's done to a high standard. It's off-grid, so it runs on solar power and rainwater. That means you have to be a bit mindful with electricity, like not running the kettle and the hairdryer at the same time. The hot tub is wood-fired, so you need to light it and let it heat up.

The space is all open plan. Big windows. There's a wood burner for cooler nights. Everything's included: bedding, towels, the electricity you use. Parking is right by the steps up to the deck.

You're down a quiet lane. It feels remote, but you're only a couple of miles from a shop and a pub in Glencaple. The Solway coast path is accessible from here if you want a walk. Caerlaverock Castle is about ten minutes away by car. The wetlands and wildfowl reserve at the WWT Caerlaverock site are really something if you like that sort of thing.

Dumfries is a 20 minute drive for bigger shops or a cinema. You can be in the Galloway Forest Park, for the dark sky park or walking, in under half an hour.

It's a specific kind of place. It's peaceful, you're in the trees, and you need to be okay with the off-grid system. If that sounds right, you'll probably like it.
